MORE THAN JUST A BRAND: A STORY OF COMMITMENTS

L'OCCITANE was born in 1976, when its founder, Olivier Baussan, began distilling essential oils and selling them in his much-loved land of Provence. Built on strong principles and true stories, the brand has grown (a lot!), but its philosophy has always remained the same. Nature matters. People matter. That is why L'OCCITANE has 6 clear commitments, focused on protecting our precious planet and treating people with respect.

Respecting Biodiversity

Naturally, a brand that loves nature, cares about conservation, and sustainability. At L'Occitane we use traceable, sustainably sourced ingredients, making sure that plants are cultivated and harvested without harming the environment or biodiversity. We've even developed supply chains that protect local plant species! Among our many actions we've launched the first organic imortelle plantation in Corsica, helped to bring almond trees back to Provence, and are working to protect Provencal lavender, which is under threat from climate change.

Supporting Producers

Our ties with our producers are the foundation of our craft. These long-standing partnerships are built on trust, fair working conditions and shared respect for the land. Today, most of our most iconic ingredients are grown by producers who work closely with us year after year.

Reducing Waste

Caring for the planet guides every choice we make. We look at each part of our packaging with the intent to lighten our footprint and offer easier ways to recycle.

Today, most of our stores now welcome customers to bring back beauty empties, and we continue to expand our refill and recycling solutions.

58% of our plastic packaging is recyclable or reusable
85% of our owned stores offer a recycling service

  • A Story of Women Empowerment

    We believe in supporting women in their journey toward greater independence. In
    Burkina Faso, our work with women who produce Shea Butter helps open access to microcredits, literacy programs and education for their children. These steps
    create long-term impact and a stronger future for their communities.

    Fighting Avoidable Blindness

    Through our Foundation and partnerships
    with NGOs and UNICEF, we help expand access to eye tests, Vitamin A supplements and eye care for children and adults who need it most. This work brings clearer, brighter futures to communities around the world.

    Artisanal skills are disappearing, and yet they're so important! When you think of L'OCCITANE, you think of authenticity, expertise, traditions and, of course, Provence. L'OCCITANE has always been passionate about craftsmanship and creativity, so it makes perfect sense for the brand to work with local artisans. We'll be showcasing their talents and know-how in our stores and working with them to develop exclusive creations and products so that you, too, can appreciate all the beauty of their traditional, artisanal skills.
