The Small Wonders of the Cabinet of Curiosities, A Fubiz Recommendation

For his “Parade” of exhibitions and artists, François Hebel has taken possession of the former Crédit Agricole headquarters to create a giant cabinet of curiosities.

The director of the Rencontres d'Arles wanted to create a museum of wonders inside refurbished former offices. On each floor, discover an art exhibition presented in glass cases, in total darkness and with only a torch for guide.

On the first two floors can be found Martin Parr’s collection of Chinese relics and works by Wassinklundgren. The fourth floor is full of valuables collected by Daile Kaplan, celebrating the decorative arts with life-size models of Hillary Clinton and Elvis Presley in his collection "Pop Photographica." Amongst the “Menteur” or “Liar” dolls representing George Bush, old phones and checkered lamps, can be found western style lamps with picturesque scenes and wooden oars on which vintage photos are printed. A special mention goes to the summer shirts flaunting motifs of Playboy covers and crowds at Woodstock. To finish the trip, the fifth floor brings together panoramas of families and Chinese cities created by Claude Hudelot and Anouck Durand.

Between nostalgia and renewal, this unusual place honors curious and fascinating objects imbued with a sweet fragrance of the past. Artists are stacked like so many wonders in a cabinet of curiosities for a “theatre of memory and mind," as Patrick Mauriès would say.
