La Biscuiterie de Forcalquier Has a Taste for Tradition

Olivier Baussan, founder of L'Occitane en Provence, has established his Provencal cookie factory on the outskirts of the village of Forcalquier. Yet another way to showcase his region.

Forcalquier’s old family-run foundry is enjoying a revival. Since July 2014, it is home to a Provencal cookie factory. Olivier Baussan decided to create this unique place with the desire to enhance the wealth of the region.

Its mantra? Respect for tradition. And this can already be felt in the decor. The former foundry does not deny its origins: inside, iron is an integral part of the architecture. Everything has been brought up to date, but an air of nostalgia remains inside these ancient walls.

The cookies are also evidence of this taste for tradition. Traditional specialties of the region – ‘navettes’ and ‘gibassier’ – are prepared with flour sourced from surrounding farms. As for the almonds, an ingredient for example in the famous Baronnies macaroons, they come from Valensole. One thing’s for sure, these simple and tasty biscuits haven’t lost their authenticity.

In order to share its passion for Provence, the cookie factory opens its doors to the public for baking workshops. It’s a way to publicize local know-how and to perpetuate sweet traditions.
